Best Firm Hold Gels

The best firm hold gels last longer and hold better than your basic hair gel. Many of them are salon hair products, but there are some over the counter hair gels that work well too. I don't recommend over the counter gels for hair that has severe damage, however, when you have healthy hair then they work just fine.

If you're going to use hair gel you might as well use firm hold, since you can always dilute the strength by simply adding water. When you do this hair gel lasts twice as long and saves you money. You can add water to hair gel by either leaving water in hair after shampooing or mixing water with gel in hands before applying.

The application of hair gel is just as important as the gel itself maybe even more so. When you don't know how to apply hair styling gel or how to style the hair, gel and other styling aids cannot be as effective as they're designed to be.

Have you ever had a hairstylist style your hair and it looked great then when you tried to duplicate it you couldn't even come close? You may have used the same hair styling products, but couldn't manage to style it the way they did.

If a hair style isn't holding then the gel isn't strong enough or the styling technique isn't sufficient. Of course, there is a possibility that you're trying to get your hair to do something that it cannot, which means unrealistic expectations.

There are many people who have unrealistic expectations when it comes to hair styling, so you are not alone. I have had hundreds of women bring me pictures of hair styles that they want, but the problem is that their hair cannot do it.

The reasons their hair cannot do it are many such as their hair is too thin, too thick, too curly, too straight, no body, too much body etc. You get the idea!

The bottom line is that you can have the best firm hold gel ever, but if you don't know how to use it or have unrealistic expectations then it won't do you much good. Keep this in mind when you complain about the gel not working.

That said; below are several firm hold gels that are excellent as long as you know how to use them. If not, learn how from your stylist or practice until you get it.

One of my favorite firm hold gels is Kenra I use it on my own hair as well as my clients. It will last forever if you know how to apply it properly and price is very good for salon quality product. It's only like $7 on Amazon for a 6 oz. tube.

Garnier Fructis Super Stiff Ultra Strong Style Gel is another excellent firm hold gel. It may be over the counter hair gel, but it works great and doesn't build up if you don't overdo it. If it's too strong just dilute as instructed above, only $3 for 6.7 oz.

Also check out Tigi BedHead Power Trip Gel, for a Tigi product it's priced pretty fair at $6 for a 7 oz. tube. Tigi carries a full line of excellent hair products.

For the guys American Crew Firm Hold is wonderful it is a little pricier at $12 for 9 oz bottle. The only difference in men's hair gel and women's is the scent. In case you didn't know men do not like girly smelling hair products on their hair.

Back to Basics is another salon gel that has a bit higher price tag at $15 for 10 oz bottle. Back to Basics Firm Hold Gel smells great. I use it as an alternate, since I alternate hair products every day to keep hair performing its best.

Matrix Biolage Gelee Firm Hold is another one of my alternates I have used it for many years and it is faithful to perform. It's about $13 for a 12 oz bottle, so not too bad price wise for a salon quality product.

Paul Mitchell Super Clean Sculpting Gel, Firm Hold is another excellent hair gel that will never build up and is priced good for a salon product at $7 for 6 oz. tube.

There you have it 7 of the best firm hold gels on the market. By the way Axe is way over rated and creates build up quite easily.
