Short Hair Styles
The best styling products for short hair begins with the shampoo not the actual hair styling aides. When you use a shampoo that isn't the best choice for your hair texture it affects how the hair will style and the finished look. Being a hairstylist since 1983 I have an extra surplus of experience with short hairstyles, especially since I have short hair myself.
I didn't always have short hair, but have had long hair and all that is between short and long. I had perms to make my hair curly and have colored my hair for over 30 years as well as cut, styled, colored and permed thousands of others. So, it is safe to say that I have plenty of experience with hair styling and hair styling products.
Short hair is the easiest of all to maintain this is why I will never have long hair again. However, just because it's short doesn't mean that you can just let it go. That is, unless you're one of the lucky few that don't need anything to make it look good. Most of us need hair styling tools and products to style our hair.
Anyway, back to shampoo and choosing the right one. You don't necessarily need to use salon shampoos unless hair is severely damaged. I use salon shampoos and drugstore shampoos even though I know salon shampoos are better.
Alternating hair products is vital when it comes to making hair look its best, so I alternate all of them including shampoos. My alternates at this time are Vavoom Bust Out Body Shampoo by Matrix, Paul Mitchell Awaphui and Herbal Essences Color Me Happy, however, when one runs out I replace it with something new.
If you have hair color or perm, always use shampoo for chemically treated hair or low pH gentle shampoos. You may have noticed that I have not mentioned conditioner and this mostly because many of us with very short hair don't need it.
Hair mousse can be used as a conditioner as well as a styling aid and that is exactly what I do, but only once a week. Other days I use hair gel and I alternate the mousse and gel just as I do the shampoos. Unless hair is extremely damaged or just been colored or conditioner is needed I do not use it on short hairstyles.
Listed below are some of the most popular brands of shampoo, mousse and gel that are excellent for short hair and they're popular because they work.

Best Hair Styling Products for Short Hair-Brands
There is definitely a reason that some hair styling product brands are more popular and like I mentioned above it's because they work and work well. Many times it also has to do with price. When hairstyling products perform well and are priced well they sell. One more thing that can help them sell is packaging.
All three reasons make sense, but only two of them really matter and the two that matter are performance and price. While packaging is appealing to look at it doesn't really matter when it comes down to the finished hairstyle.
My point is don't be fooled by cool packaging, but instead look for reviews and ratings or ask your stylist for advice. Amazon is a safe site online to read reviews and ratings on hair products to find out what is what with hair products.
Also, I have other articles that you can link to on alternating hair products and other informative hair articles where I tell it like it is. After all, I have nothing to gain, so why wouldn't I be truthful about hair products and what is best?
Keep in mind that hair product brands have certain hair products that work well and others that may not perform as well, so it's a good idea to still read reviews or ask a trusted person about each hair product that you're interested in.
That said, the brands recommended here are ones that I prefer at this time. I'm always open to trying new hair products, since I am always looking for alternates.
As far as shampoo's go I recommend Tigi, Matrix, Paul Mitchell, Herbal Essences, Pureology, Crew, Back to Basics, Ion, Tresemme, Infusium and Pantene.
Hair gel works better on short hairstyles that require more control, so my top picks for hair gel brands are Kenra firm hold, Matrix Gelee firm hold, Sebastian Volupt Spray Gel and Paul Mitchell Super Clean Sculpting Gel firm style.
Hair mousse helps add volume, hold and conditioning. Top picks for hair mousse brands are Vavoom Volumizing Foam by Matrix, Tigi Catwalk Fashionista Big and Bigger, Kenra Volume Mousse Extra and Sebastian Thickefy Foam.
Might as well add hair sprays to the list, since they are vital for lasting hold. My favorite hair spray brands are Vavoom Freezing Spray, KMS Flat Out Anti-Humidity Seal, Tresemme Two Extra Hold and L'Oreal Paris Extra Strong Hold.
